We leave Cusco early in the morning traveling by private bus to the small town of Tinqui. We will see the impressive “Vilcanota” mountain range and pass through several traditional Andean

villages in route and take the time to stop in route and take some pictures. On arrival we meet our rider and organize our packages for the walk. We began our tour of the farming communities and enjoyed the breathtaking views of the mountains. We will hike around 3 hours and then it is time for a stop for lunch. After lunch we continue for another 2 hours approximately until we reach the hot springs in “Upis”. We spent the night here.

DAY 2

Upis a Ausangatecocha

After a big breakfast, we are ready to leave our camp and start our hike for the day. We will ascend to the high pass of “Arapa” (4850mts). From this point of view we can see the contrast in the landscapes: the dry desert hills reach the glaciers of the mountain. “Ausangate”, while below the valley there is a bright green color. If we are lucky, we might even see a condor in the sky! We will enjoy the breathtaking snow-covered views of the “Ausangate and PucaQocha” mountains. This area also has three beautiful lakes with shades of red, green and turquoise (Pukacocha, Hatun Pukacocha and Qomerqocha). Our second camp is near a glacier.

Puca Qocha - Huchuy Pinaya

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will begin our ascent of approximately 2-3 hours in our second mountain pass, “Abra de Apuchata” (4,900 mts). From here we descend for about an hour and a half to our camp at “Ausangate Qocha”, where a delicious lunch is served to enjoy the breathtaking scenery. DAY 4

Huchuy Pinaya - Jampa

Today we ascend to the highest point of our trek – Jampa (5,150mts). The silence of this remote desert is inspiring! From here we have an excellent view of Mount “jampa”. After the pass we descend for 2 hours through an area of llamas, alpacas and vicuñas to reach “Pampacancha” (4,050mts). From here we follow an uphill trail of approximately three hours that takes us to our camp in “Jampa” (4,300 mts).

After enjoying the spectacular views of the “Vilcanota” mountain range, we descend for a delicious lunch. In the afternoon we descend towards the “Qomerqocha” lagoon before arriving at “Pacchanta” after approximately 5 hours of hiking. “Pacchanta” is a small community with attractive hot springs where we can enjoy a relaxing bath.
