The 2-day, 1-night Machu Picchu excursion by car offers an alternative route, also known as the “Amazon Route,” that takes you to the town of Aguas Calientes and allows you to experience the Wonder of the World while enjoying a more intimate connection with nature. Along the way, you will witness stunning panoramic views of snow-capped mountains like Chicon, Salkantay, and Veronica, which are a testament to the beauty of the Peruvian Andean highlands.
The journey features both paved and rustic roads, and you’ll encounter friendly locals along the way. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a fantastic hike through wild flora and fauna, including a visit to the stunning Mandor Gardens.

Highlights of the excursion include observing the local flora and fauna, touring Machu Picchu by car with a professional guide, and experiencing an excellent alternative route to visit this ancient site. We will begin the 2-day/1-night excursion to Machu Picchu by car between 7:00 to 7:30 a.m. with a pick-up from your hotel in the center of Cusco. During the journey, we will pass through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, witness different towns, and experience varying climates until we arrive at the tropical zone.
At 1:30 p.m., we will stop in Santa Teresa for lunch before continuing our trip to Hidroeléctrica. From there, we will take a 45-minute tourist mobility ride and start our 3-hour hike along the Amazon trail to reach Aguas Calientes or Machu Picchu Pueblo. Alternatively, you can take the local train to Aguas Calientes.
Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, our guide will assist you in checking into your respective tourist accommodations. That same night, we will have dinner and receive instructions from our professional guide regarding our visit to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. This marks the end of the first part of our tour.
We will begin our day early at 5:00 a.m. to embark on a 1 hour and 30-minute hike to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Once we enter the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, we will enjoy a guided tour for two hours before having free time to explore the area on our own.
At 11:30 a.m., we will take a bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes. On this day, we must be at the hydroelectric plant (you can walk or take the local train from 12:30 p.m.) by 2:30 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. since our bus will be waiting for us to return to the city of Cusco.
Our Machu Picchu by Car 2-day/1-night tour will end at Plaza San Francisco in Cusco city.
